It’s rare that I dedicate an entire post to somebody else’s article, but this 2-part series called How to Pick Your Life Partner really caught my attention. Apparently it’s been floating around the internet for a while now, but I read it for the first time this week, and I want to share it with you.
I’ve said this before, but I think it needs repeating, when you’ve been single for a long time or can’t seem to meet the right guy, it’s easy to lose touch with what will actually make you happy in a relationship. Because when what you’ve been hoping for is taking it’s time to get to you, your imagination gets taken over by TV, movies and your favorite love story. It becomes easy to fall into the trap of feeling, somewhere deep down within yourself, that you deserve to have the right man that has all of the qualities and characteristics you’ve been looking for, especially since you’ve waited so long.
We all have our types and preferences when looking for a partner, I know I do. But you can’t stop there. You must take a closer look at what really matters in sustaining a relationship. And not just any relationship, but the kind that will make you happy in the long run.
It’s hard to believe that a man who looks perfect on paper might not be the best match, but often times he’s just not your guy. I’m not telling you to get with a man who repulses you, as a matter of fact my hope is that you find what you’re looking for. But all that glitters isn’t gold, and unless you have a solid understanding of what it takes to pick the right partner, you could be setting yourself up for a nasty divorce or a life of misery with a man who can’t give or be what you need in a relationship.
